The Cahills have the world at their feet – Aidan Cahill is one of the new breed of Irish property tycoons, his glamorous wife Michelle is a successful estate agent, and their beautiful daughter Emma is an up-and-coming photographic model. But all is not as it seems: Aidan is having an affair with his secretary, and Michelle is secretly seeing John Ward, her daughter’s best friend’s Father.

Meanwhile, it’s Emma’s 21st birthday and Michelle is hosting a party her daughter will never forget. However, when the evening comes to an unexpectedly violent and traumatic end, the comfortable and secure world of the Cahills falls apart.  Emma has been raped by her mother’s lover in the bathroom of the family home: the police are called, statements are taken and John Ward is arrested.

Emma’s life drops into freefall. Her parents struggle privately to deal with what’s happened while Emma seeks solace in drink and drugs. It’s only when she seeks counselling at the Rape Crisis Centre that she begins to deal with what’s happened. It’s there that she befriends Dee – who has also been raped.

But when Emma finds out about her mother’s affair with the man who raped her, she decides to leave home.  Leaving everything behind, she turns to Dee and a new life. Working in the supermarket that Dee works in, Emma begins to feel normal again. That is until she bumps in to John Ward. In a tailspin, she slowly realises that the only way to beat Ward is by returning to her family and giving evidence in court. Aidan and Michelle rally together to support their daughter.

But the court case is far more traumatic than she expected – her statement is picked apart by the defence and she has to listen to Ward assure the court that she consented to sex. With her family and Dee on her side, Emma waits for the verdict …
